Single Review : 9 o’clock Nasty “5 Foot 2”
There is
something about 9 o’clock Nasty that keeps pulling me back. I have reviewed
several of their releases over the years, and every time they return with
something new, they manage to sound fresh without losing the attitude that
makes them unique. Maybe it is their fearless, straight-in-your-face approach.
Maybe it is the unapologetic “we don’t care what anyone thinks” spirit that
runs through every song. Whatever it is, it works.
“5 Foot 2”
is another perfect example of why this Leicester trio continues to stand out in
a crowded underground scene. The track feels loose, raw and spontaneous, yet it
hits with remarkable force. The band’s trademark blend of punk energy,
garage-rock grit and sharp humor remains intact, but there is also a surprising
accessibility that makes the song instantly engaging.
Lyrically,
the song balances absurdity and sincerity in classic 9 o’clock Nasty fashion. A
twisted love song mixed with orangutan escapology should not make sense on
paper, yet the band somehow turns the bizarre concept into something
entertaining and strangely meaningful. Their knack for finding poetry in chaos
remains one of their greatest strengths.
Musically,
“5 Foot 2” delivers crunchy riffs, infectious rhythms and the kind of swagger
that only 9 o’clock Nasty can provide. It sounds tough without trying too hard
and clever without becoming pretentious.
I genuinely
love this band, and I honestly do not know exactly why. Perhaps it is because
they sound authentic in a world full of calculated music. Keep going, guys—you
are among the best, and “5 Foot 2” proves it once again.
