The Total Sound Of The Undergound

Lelahel Metal

Swedish punk band Repeat returns with Celebrate, a raw, energetic new single marking a bold shift in sound. We spoke with them about evolution, emotion, and what’s next for the band.

1. "Celebrate" marks the start of a new chapter for Repeat. What sparked this new direction in your sound and songwriting?

We came to a cross road musically and felt that we wanted to explore new territories.

2. The track is described as a release of energy, blending euphoria and desperation. Can you walk us through the emotions and themes behind the lyrics?

You will have to listen to the track yourself and build your own opinion. It is a song about letting go and being present in the moment.

4. Producer Joakim Lindberg is back at the helm in Studio Sickan. What makes this collaboration so fruitful for Repeat?

Joakim is a master, his view on sound is unique and fits Repeat very well.

5. Despite the new elements, you’ve said this still feels “100 percent like Repeat.” What defines that core identity for you as a band?

Short, loud songs with a clear hook.

6. How do you think your sound has evolved between your previous albums and Celebrate – both the single and the upcoming EP?

It is more punk-isch now, rawer and we have worked quite a bit on the vocals.

7. Your live performances in Sweden and Germany have been intense and well-received. How does your stage energy influence your studio recordings?

Not so much actually. With the recording we want to make sure it sits well together. But of course, we do always have in min if this would work in a live setting. And we recording ridiculously load

8. The Celebrate EP will feature five tracks that are “short, uncompromising, and straight to the point.” Can you give us a hint of what to expect from the other songs?

They are all quite similar to Celebrate.

9. The single feels both heavy and melodic. How do you strike that balance in your songwriting without losing the raw punk energy?

It is not so difficult, the rawness comes first, we never compromise there. We do actually scrap quite a lot of songs along the way.

10. What role do the visuals (artwork, videos, social media) play in communicating the band’s message for this release?

We do spend some time on social media for sure, but mostly to communicate with our fans in live settings.

11. Looking ahead to the EP release in September, how are you planning to build up to it? Are there shows, videos, or other surprises in the pipeline?

We have a number of shows leading up to the release. And then we are planning a tour also in autumn

12. Lastly, what do you personally “celebrate” in your lives right now – musically or otherwise?

We are celebrating by playing live. 😊
