Matt C. White Releases Gritty New Album ‘Punishers’
Brooklyn-based artist Matt C. White has unveiled his latest original album Punishers, released on May 2, 2025. Recorded entirely in his home studio in Bushwick, the 10-track record dives deep into the wild, chaotic energy of New York’s late-night bar culture. Inspired by encounters with “punishers”—overbearing characters who dominate conversations in bars—White uses his signature fuzzed-out baritone guitar and raw vocals to bring these stories to life.
Drawing influence from bands like The Jesus Lizard and Deathchant, Punishers blends elements of classic rock, grunge, and metal. Tracks like “Remember” push boundaries with shifting tempos and spoken-word passages that unravel into distorted sonic chaos—mirroring the disarray of a night fueled by too much booze and too many stories.
The album
was mixed and performed entirely by White, with final mastering by Matt Labozza
(Palm, The Giraffes). Punishers follows his earlier Creepshow
Peepshow series and further establishes White’s place in Brooklyn’s
underground scene. He’ll perform the album live this August at Music Hall of
Williamsburg, bringing the barroom mayhem to the stage. Unapologetically gritty
and wildly immersive, Punishers is a compelling snapshot of life on the
edge of last call.
