new single “Glitch” introduces a more modern edge to Lethernal Utopia’s sound.
What sparked this evolution in your musical direction?
We’ve always had
one foot in the melodic metal of the late 90s and early 2000s, but with
“Glitch,” we wanted to tap into the raw intensity and production punch of
modern metalcore. It wasn’t a forced shift, more like a natural evolution as
our influences expanded and our vision sharpened. We didn’t want to stay stuck
in nostalgia; we wanted to sound like « us ».
2. The track seamlessly blends clean and screamed vocals. How do you
approach balancing aggression with melody in your songwriting?
It’s all about tension and release. We want the listener to feel something;
rage, melancholy, or hope; and that contrast between harsh and clean vocals
helps us carve out emotional highs and lows. We never throw in a scream or
clean part just to tick a box, everything serves the mood and story of the
song.
3. Melodic riffs and a carefully crafted solo play a big role in “Glitch.”
Can you talk about the writing and recording process behind those guitar parts?
Adrien laid down the foundation riff pretty early, it had that glitchy,
stuttering feel that set the tone. From there, we focused on layering harmonies
and leads that felt urgent but still melodic. The solo came last, and it was
about creating a melodic hook rather than just shredding. It had to feel
earned, like a release after the chaos.
4. Lyrically, what’s the story or concept behind “Glitch”? Is there a
particular message you wanted to convey?
“Glitch” is about the cracks in our identity, when you look in the mirror and
don’t recognize who you’ve become. It’s a cry against the numbing, digital,
hollow version of yourself that modern life can create. There’s a message of
reclaiming authenticity, even if it means breaking down first.
5. You’ve been compared to bands like Parkway Drive, The Halo Effect, Born
of Osiris, and In Flames. How do those influences shape your creative process
while maintaining your own identity?
Those bands including Children Of Bodom through Alexi’s guitar playing helped
shape our musical DNA, no doubt. But we don’t try to imitate them. Our sound is
a mix of those inspirations filtered through our own stories and experiences.
6. There’s a polished, high-impact production value to the song. Who did you
work with on the production side, and how did they help bring your vision to
life?
We worked closely with Plume, who really understood our duality, melodic but
heavy, emotional but sharp. The production process was super collaborative.
From tone crafting to vocal layering, every detail was intentional. We wanted
clarity without losing edge, and he helped us this way.
7. Lethernal Utopia has always had a strong emotional core. How do you
translate personal experiences into something fans can connect with
universally?
We write from real places — frustration, heartbreak, hope — but we always try
to leave room for interpretation. Our lyrics might be rooted in something
specific, but they’re wrapped in imagery that allows listeners to find their
story in it. Music isn’t just our therapy — it’s a shared language.
8. What was the most challenging part of making “Glitch,” and how did you
overcome it?
The biggest challenge was locking in the chorus. There wasn’t a definitive
version before the day we recorded it, we had a few ideas floating around, but
nothing felt quite right. It wasn’t until we were in the studio, all together,
that the final version came to life. We trusted our instincts and each other,
and it just clicked.
9. The song feels tailor-made for a live setting. How does it fit into your
current setlist, and what’s the crowd response been like?
It’s become one of the high points in our set. The energy spikes as soon as
that opening riff hits. Live, it’s hard to say as it hasn’t been played yet!
But we have great shows coming like The Lords Fest on the 28th of May, we can’t
wait to see how people react!
10. Are there more songs in the same sonic vein coming soon, or is “Glitch”
a standalone experiment in a new direction?
“Glitch” is a door, not a detour. We’re definitely diving deeper into this
modern, sharp-edged sound. The upcoming songs carry that same DNA but explore
different facets of emotion and storytelling. This is just the beginning!
11. Finally, what do you hope fans take away after listening to “Glitch” —
both musically and emotionally?
We want people to feel submerged, overtaken by the emotion and intensity of the
track. When the song ends, we want them to sit back and think, “Wow… what just
happened here?” That mix of raw energy, melody, and meaning, that’s what we
hope leaves a mark. If it stirs something deep, then we did our job!
