Single Review: THE CUNNING LINGUISTS “Plastic Angels”
Australian
trio THE CUNNING LINGUISTS return to Lelahel Metal with “PLASTIC ANGELS,”
another dose of raw, unconventional punk rock carrying a sharp social message.
Having previously reviewed their music and interviewed the band, including
vocalist Clare Easdown, we already know these musicians rarely follow
predictable paths.
Addressing
modern beauty standards and the ridiculous pressures placed on women, “PLASTIC
ANGELS” combines attitude, urgency, and unapologetic DIY spirit. Drawing from
punk, grunge, riot grrrl, and goth rock, the band delivers its message without
unnecessary polish or corporate gloss.
The
accompanying video deserves special attention for its originality, memorable
characters, and wonderfully bizarre atmosphere. The production remains as
unconventional as their previous work, but this increasingly feels like a
signature rather than a limitation. In an era when achieving a clean,
professional production is more accessible than ever, THE CUNNING LINGUISTS
seem determined to preserve something rough, spontaneous, and genuinely their
own. That deliberate imperfection gives the track and its visuals a distinctive
personality.
There is
something refreshingly different about Australian underground artists, and this
trio certainly reinforces that impression. THE CUNNING LINGUISTS continue to
challenge expectations with creativity, character, and a refusal to conform.
“PLASTIC ANGELS” proves that sometimes, being different is the whole point.
