Single Review: Ten Ton Devil “Tooth and Tongue”

Discovering Ten Ton Devil for the first time through “Tooth and Tongue” is a genuinely striking experience. Coming out of Wilmington, NC, this studio-driven project led by Kevin Caputo immediately sets itself apart with a bold and unapologetic artistic vision. What impresses most is the band’s ability to blend seemingly “non-mixable” genres into something cohesive and powerful—fusing elements of heavy rock, industrial textures, deathcore aggression, and progressive rhythmic ideas with remarkable creativity.

Musically, the track thrives on contrast and control. Punishing breakdowns collide with intricate, almost mechanical grooves, clearly echoing influences like Meshuggah and Black Sabbath while still carving out a distinct identity. The riffs feel deliberate and impactful, never Just noise, while the raw production enhances the track’s visceral, unfiltered energy.

Lyrically, “Tooth and Tongue” dives deep into themes of vengeance, confrontation, and emotional release. There’s a palpable sense of tension throughout, as if the song itself is on the brink of eruption. The vocal delivery channels that intensity perfectly, acting as both a narrative force and an additional rhythmic layer.

For a first encounter, this is seriously impressive. Ten Ton Devil demonstrate not only technical skill, but a fearless approach to songwriting. “Tooth and Tongue” doesn’t just hit hard—it leaves a lasting mark.
