EP Review : Macrowave “Imminent”

With Imminent, MACROWAVE delivers a compact yet striking EP made up of five tracks totaling just over 16 minutes. While this is not the kind of music we usually cover on our website, a single listen is enough to understand why this release caught our attention. Its dark spirit, tight rhythms, and immersive atmosphere naturally called for a closer look.

The EP opens with the self-titled track “Imminent,” which immediately sets the tone. An ambient introduction slowly unfolds into cold darkwave textures and tense electronic layers, announcing a universe where cinematic tension and physical energy collide. The production is solid and polished, allowing every detail to breathe while maintaining a strong sense of momentum.

“Emergence,” the first single released ahead of the EP, wastes no time. With no intro or unnecessary build-up, it dives straight into the core of MACROWAVE’s sound. The driving drums and sharp synth lines make the track highly engaging, clearly showcasing the duo’s identity and their ability to translate emotion into raw power.

The third track, “No Return,” follows the same path without hesitation. A brief ambient passage in the middle adds depth and scale, highlighting the EP’s cinematic ambition before returning to its central theme with renewed intensity.

“Edge of Time” stands out with its energetic and infectious rhythm, offering one of the EP’s most dynamic moments. Finally, “Shattered” closes the release on a high note, embracing a distinctly dark, almost 80s-tinged atmosphere. It feels like a fitting conclusion—everything falls into place, leaving a lasting impression.

Overall, Imminent is a well-crafted and cohesive EP. Everything is exactly where it should be: atmosphere, rhythm, and emotion. MACROWAVE clearly did things rightand this release deserves a tip of the hat.
