Single Review : Rakamay “Let It Snow”

With “Let It Snow”, Rakamay crashes back onto the scene after twenty-five years of silence, and what a comeback. The trio from Port Elizabeth delivers a loud, fast, and unapologetically punk twist on the Christmas spirit, where frantic riffs, raw attitude, and just the right dose of holiday mischief collide. Forget the jingles and the gentle carols: this is the Christmas song we actually want to hear.

From the very first listen, the track sets the tone without hesitation. A striking guitar riff tears open the soundscape, quickly joined by a gritty bassline and tight, relentless drumming. Rakamay hasn’t lost an ounce of its instinct. The intensity rises, breaks, rebuilds, and erupts again, echoing the band’s early grunge and hardcore influences. The vocals  ‘sharp yet warm’ bring an essential contrast, adding movement and personality while the instrumentation stays intentionally raw and straight-to-the-point.

What makes this single even more meaningful is the story behind it. After rediscovering a forgotten 1998 demo, the band reunited across countries and time zones, breathing new life into old songs and creating this brand-new Christmas track. “Let It Snow” feels like a celebration of friendship, unfinished stories, and the thrill of making music together again.

Clocking in at 4 minutes and 11 seconds, the track is a burst of pure punk energy that announces the holidays with a grin and a snarl. Rakamay chose the perfect moment to release it — and this year, the real Christmas anthem isn’t a classic carol. It’s this. Rakamay is back, and they’re louder than ever.
