The Total Sound Of The Undergound

Lelahel Metal

Thy Sanatorium emerges as a mysterious multinational collective blending black, gothic, and symphonic metal with horror-inspired aesthetics. With their debut single Torment releasing on October 31st, they invite listeners into darkness.

1. Thy Sanatorium is presented as an anonymous multi-national collective. What inspired you to embrace anonymity, and how do you feel it shapes the band’s identity?

Aries: Our identity is not important when it comes to Thy Sanatorium.

Anonymity allows for total creative freedom. The focus is on the music and the visuals that go along with it all.

2. You blend black metal with gothic, symphonic, and other extreme elements. How did this unique fusion of styles come together during the writing process?

Aries: Musically Thy Sanatorium is influenced by bands within those genres and combines a lot of those different elements. But it also draws inspiration from classic horror movies be it the Universal Monster universe to the cult Italian horror movies of the 60’s and 70’s all the way to the contemporary A24 movies.

3. Your debut single “Torment” is set for release on October 31st, 2025. What can listeners expect thematically and sonically from this first offering?

Aries: As the title says, the song is about dealing with Torment, the horror of torment and the realization that the only way to deal with it is to embrace it. Sonically it’s a fast pace epic that embodies what Thy Sanatorium is all about with black, death and symphonic elements. There’s also melody without compromising it’s aggressiveness.

4. Horror seems to play a strong role in your concept. How do you incorporate horror into your music, lyrics, and visuals?

Aries: Lyrically it’s very abstract and open to interpretation and the visual element is just as important as music. The video for Torment is a homage to the horror genre while also representing the different kinds of torment one can experience and the ultimate embrace of it all.

5. With members spread across different countries, how do you approach songwriting, recording, and maintaining creative chemistry?

Aries: I write and produce all the music while Ra writes all the lyrics and vocal parts while the other members add their unique sound, gifts and talents. It has worked really well this way. It’s important that there are no egos involved and that we ultimately work together for the benefit of the music and concept.

6. RA and Aries appear to be the driving force of the band. Can you share how the two of you first connected and how the rest of the lineup came together?

Aries: I spent over a year looking for the right songwriting partner and singer for Thy Sanatorium and had been sitting on the demo for “Torment” for that entire time. After a few failed attempts I found some music that RA had done with previous bands which I found really impressive and decided to contact him to see if he’d be interested in collaborating. Everything happened very quickly after that. We had a few exchanges and within days RA had lyrics written and his vocals completed. The rest of the members are all people I've known for a long time and that I’ve worked with over the years so we were already familiar with each other and how everything was going to work.

7. The debut single will be released alongside both an official video and a lyric video. How important are the visual aspects to Thy Sanatorium’s artistic vision?

Aries: In the Metal genre visuals have always been as important as the music. From the album covers, to how the band or artists present themselves, act and look, to the music videos, merchandise and more.

Thy Sanatorium is horror themed so the visuals are as important as the music and we’ll continue to grow with that in mind.

8. Many new bands start with EPs or full albums, but you’re choosing to begin with a single. What made “Torment” the right introduction to the world?

Aries: With streaming and social media the rules have changed. Releasing a single is the perfect introduction to Thy Sanatorium and hopefully it will leave those who enjoy “Torment” wanting more and wondering what’s next. While it includes all the elements of what to expect from Thy Sanatorium, the song is just a taste of what’s to come.

9. Metal is often about pushing boundaries. What do you hope Thy Sanatorium will bring to the extreme music scene that sets you apart from other acts?

Aries: As mentioned, the rules have changed. We are going to do things our way without worrying what other artists or bands do and I think you will see that on October 31st when “Torment” is released in it’s music and video form. I hope those who listen will enjoy it, are entertained but also maybe take away something deeper from it all.

10. Looking beyond the release of “Torment,” what’s next for Thy Sanatorium in 2026—do you envision a full album, live performances, or expanding the collective further?

Aries: We’re already working on the next release and focusing on one song at a time, treating each song as it’s own thing and as an event. Eventually we’ll have enough of them to form a full album and because the focus is on each and every song, there won’t be fillers of any kind. The focus right now is releasing the music and all the things that go along with that. No plans on live performances yet but you never know. The same goes for expanding the collective.

“Torment” is just the beginning. We’ll see how the rest unfolds and hope to see as many people as possible join us on this journey.
