French death metal force Murder Sermon unleash their brutal new single “Through the Eyes of the Mirror”—a glimpse into their upcoming album’s technical fury, raw honesty, and unrelenting groove.
1.
“Through the Eyes of the Mirror” is the first taste of your upcoming album.
What does this single reveal about the musical direction of the record?
This track sets the tone: it's brutal, technical, and intense. The rest of the
record follows that path but takes it even further.
2. The track blends death metal riffing with your signature explosive style.
How do you strike a balance between technical aggression and groove?
It’s all about dynamics. We love technical riffs and blast beats, but without
groove or space, it becomes noise. We focus on flow—riding that fine line where
complexity doesn’t kill impact.
3. You recorded at Avatar Productions Studio near Rouen. What does working
in such a familiar and comfortable space bring to your creative process?
There’s no pressure to pretend—we’re just ourselves, fully locked in. We’ve
built trust with the team at Avatar, and that allows us to take risks. When you
feel safe, you create with more honesty, and the music reflects that.
4. Collaboration seems to be a core part of your songwriting. How do the
different personalities in Murder Sermon influence the final sound?
We challenge each other constantly—in the best way. One of us brings brutal
riffing, another comes in with eerie melodies, and someone else insists on
tightening the structure.
5. Can you take us through a key moment in the studio when “Through the Eyes
of the Mirror” really came to life?
The turning point was when we layered the vocal. Suddenly, the emotion hit like
a wave—everything clicked. It wasn’t just heavy anymore; it felt real. That
moment set the bar for the rest of the album.
6. This release feels like a bold step forward for you. Was there a
conscious decision to push yourselves musically, or did it happen naturally
during writing?
A bit of both. We went in knowing we wanted to evolve—no repetition, no
formula. But the deeper we got into writing, the more natural it became to push
harder.
7. Lyrically and thematically, what story or concept lies behind “Through
the Eyes of the Mirror”?
It’s about self-confrontation. Staring into your own reflection and seeing not
just what you’ve become. It explores guilt, fear, and growth. There’s no
redemption arc here, just raw truth. It’s a scream from the inside out.
8. You’ve described this as your most intense release yet. What aspects of
the upcoming album will surprise both longtime fans and new listeners?
We’re experimenting more—tempo changes, unexpected melodies, layered
atmospheres. There’s more depth without sacrificing brutality.
9. How does being part of the Rouen metal scene shape Murder Sermon’s
identity and energy?
Rouen’s scene… There’s a hunger here, a rawness that feeds us. We grew up in
this environment—tight rooms, DIY shows, passionate crowds. It taught us to
earn every reaction and give everything we’ve got, every time.
10. With no shows planned before the album, how do you plan to translate the
raw studio intensity of these songs onto the stage in 2026?
We’re building the live show with intention. Every track is being designed to
hit hard live—visually, sonically, emotionally.
11. What were the biggest challenges during the making of this single, and
how did you overcome them?
Pushing our limits without losing control. Some parts were so fast and
intricate that we hit walls during tracking. But instead of compromising, we
reworked, retracked, and got tighter as a unit. We held each other accountable,
and that made the result stronger.
12. Finally, looking beyond the album release, what are Murder Sermon’s
long-term goals for the next chapter of the band?
We want to take this sound global. More shows, reach new audiences, and keep
pushing the boundaries of our genre. But beyond that, we want to make music
that lasts—something that stays with people.
