Ep Review - Nothing But A Metaphor “Nothing But A Metaphor”
The
self-titled debut EP from Nothing But A Metaphor is an intense and
unsettling journey, oscillating between metalcore, noisecore, and raw
sincerity. The production leans towards a noisy and abrasive sound,
which doesn’t always reflect the metalcore style the band claims. Still, this
roughness gives the record a sense of authenticity and honesty that
works in its favor.
Opening track AFTERLIFE dives straight into the chaos: harsh screams, dissonant riffs, and a disturbing atmosphere, closer to noisecore than metalcore, with a short atmospheric break to breathe before the storm returns. GOD BLESS YOU feels heavier and more metal-oriented, kicking off with a crushing riff before shifting into melodic passages, vocoder vocals, and a final outburst of rage. PERFECT BLUE stands out with its spacey, atmospheric intro before collapsing into dissonant guitar riffs and screamed vocals, alternating between tension and release.
BURY ME
ALIVE (feat. Zaeli)
adds another layer of depth: the female guest vocals bring intimacy and
contrast, though at times they clash slightly with the raw screams. Finally, THE
SUMMER IS DEAD closes the EP with destructive riffs, growls, and chaotic
energy — the noisiest and rawest track of the record.
As a debut,
this EP is passionate, sincere, and promising. There’s a certain
creative innocence here, but tightening the execution and surrounding the
project with more musicians could bring clarity and precision. A project to
encourage — and one to keep a close eye on.
