Superior Rage rises once more in 2025 with Back to the Crypt. Blending raw black metal fury with symphonic depth, the new promo marks a powerful rebirth for the cult project.
1. Superior
Rage has returned with Back to the Crypt in 2025. What does
this new promo represent for you compared to past releases?
“Back to the
Crypt” is the new step of Superior Rage. The new line-up of the musical
project. I think that the sound quality has improved significantly compared to
the previous compilation entitled “Anthology”.
2. The
promo includes re-recorded versions of “Indecent Condition” and “The Night of
Rains.” Why did you choose to revisit these particular classics now?
Because
both are ‘classical’ song by Superior Rage. “Indecent Condition” is taken from
the first demo, while “The Night of Rains” from “III” demo. I think that with a
complete line-up “Indecent Condition” and “The Night of Rains” sound much
better than the previous versions!”
3. The
brand-new track “Soleright” dates back to 2014. What made this the right moment
to finally bring it to life in a studio version?
I think it was
2014 or 2015, many years have passed. SR was a duo from 2012 to 2014 and, when
I returned alone in the line-up, I composed new song and a couple of Dimmu
Borgir cover. I think the current line-up has been a great opportunity to
release “Soleright”. It never published before.
4. Back
to the Crypt features contributions from international musicians. How
did these collaborations come about, and what new dimensions did they add to
the music?
I got contacts
with those guys through collaborations via the internet. We play symphonic
black metal music, especially cover. Each musician brought their own personal
touch to the songs and this thing it’s the most important aspect of “Back to
the Crypt” promo.
5. The
songs have been mixed and mastered by Harpag Karnik of Ardawahisht Kollective.
How did his production style influence the final sound?
I think
they made a good job. The sound is “raw” but also atmospheric. The three songs
have a modern production but they have also old textures.
6. Your
music has always balanced raw black metal roots with atmospheric and symphonic
touches. How does this balance manifest in the new promo?
“Indecent
Condition” remains very angry, but with less frills and the song gains in
obscurity. “The Night of Rains” is more ‘heavy metal’ compared to the original
version. “Soleright” has reminiscent of symphonic black metal, but at the same
time has many influences from metal world.
7. Looking
back at the 2024 Anthology release, how did reworking and
remastering your earlier material prepare you for this new chapter?
“Anthology”
remains essential. If we exclude the single “Boobs Explosions” out in 2022 (at
that time, I was completely broke, my friend) Superior Rage had been inactive
for years. So I restart the ‘machine’ at the current situation and Superior
Rage character reborn.
8. Superior
Rage has had periods of silence and rebirth over the years. What keeps pulling
you back to this project after time away?
I think
that Superior Rage is irreducible. It’s a birth of my mind during the university
period. SR has undergone many changes in line-up and aesthetics during the
years, but the image of the man with the cloak and golden mask prevailed.
9. The
project often embraces dark humor and theatricality alongside grim black metal
themes. How do those elements come into play in Back to the Crypt?
It is
important not to take yourself too seriously. Cradle of Filth and Iron Maiden
have been great sources of inspiration. We are expressing ourselves through
music; I don't want to convert anyone or anything like that. If you want to
venture into the world of Superior Rage, get ready to climb aboard our “boat”.
10. With
nearly two decades behind Superior Rage, what do you envision for the project’s
future after this promo—more collaborations, full-length albums, or something
entirely new?
SR is always open to new steps. Bringing Superior Rage's music on the stage require a significant contribution, so agencies and label, step forward and you won't be disappointed.
