The Total Sound Of The Undergound

Lelahel Metal

Formed in 2024 in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, Tria Prima blends death metal with doom and dungeon synth, forging a unique alchemical concept that defies genre norms and thrives amidst adversity.

1. Your band was formed in September 2024, bringing together musicians from several renowned Ukrainian projects. What motivated you to unite under this new banner, and how did the creative chemistry evolve among members with such diverse backgrounds?
Greetings to all from the centre of the universe - Zhytomyr! In fact, there is an interesting long-standing pre-history here, after which you will have everything in its place. From 2010 to 2014 me and drummer Yuriy Sinitsky played in one of the most famous thrash metal bands in Ukraine - Violent Omen, with which we achieved a lot of success in a short time, releasing 3 albums and giving a lot of concerts just for 5 years of the band's existence. But then came a critical moment in the relations between the band members and I left the band and moved to another city Sumy, created a new band Bestial Invasion, and then generally went to live in Hungary, so I didn't keep in touch with Yuriy for more than 10 years. But then when I came back to live in Ukraine I accidentally met Yuriy near my house and we settled our misunderstandings for the last years and he called me once to his rehearsal to his band, where Ruslan was a guitarist-vocalist. In the end we decided to try to create a new death metal band! And we didn't have any wild ambitions and Napoleonic plans for the band, it all worked out organically by itself! We immediately found a common language between us and Chemistry started to turn into Alchemy!

2. Death metal with elements of doom and dungeon synth is a rare and intriguing blend. How did you arrive at this specific sound, and what were the key influences behind shaping it?
Initially we wanted to start in the style of oldschool death metal, but from the second song we started to introduce elements of doom metal, and then when I got the idea of the concept of Alchemy, we decided to add some elements of dungeon synth for a deeper atmosphere and already on our third track Witchcraft Salt we have already found our style. Our debut mini album Three Primes of Alchemy was a trial for us in terms of style, in order to find ourselves better and on the new album we did it! You will be pleasantly surprised how well we managed to discover and expand our stylistic scope!

3. Alchemy is a fascinating and complex concept. What drew you to explore it as the central theme of the band, and how do you translate its mystical and symbolic elements into music and lyrics?
We don’t want to be just another boring and primitive band that projects about corpses, zombies, death, satan, etc. We wanted to be special in terms of theme and concept, so I had the idea to use Alchemy for that. I once read Angel of the Western Window by Gustav Myrinc and I was very impressed by this book and after that I wrote a song for Bestial Invasion, also the cover of this album was called Alchemist and after that I started to be more interested in this topic of alchemy. I always wanted to continue this theme, but I never had the opportunity, so now I have just got the opportunity with Tria Prima to do it as much as possible.

4. Your debut mini-album Three Primes of Alchemy was released in January 2025 and received very positive reviews. Looking back, what do you think resonated most with listeners and critics?
I think what listeners liked the most was our unusual mix of stylistics and the concept of Alchemy. Also many people admired the fact that even though we live during the war and our city is bombed almost every day, we have the strength and ability to make and record music of such quality. Also very pleased that many people see in our mini album the future potential of the band, that it is a good start and everyone will be very interested in what will be next, that is, we have created intrigue and it is very happy that everyone is waiting for us to continue! I promise we will not let you down!

5. The track "Solar Sulfur" features guest vocalist Anira and has a music video. How did that collaboration come about, and what was the experience like working with her?
Initially we didn't plan to have anyone else on our mini album, but since we had very big ambitions, we couldn't do without this talented singer. I invited Anira at the very last moment when I heard the Solar Sulfur demo at the sound engineer's before mastering and realised that the song lacked a female vocal, so I approached her and she agreed. She is a very experienced artist who can sing in any style, so she fit in very well with our music. She will also be on the new album, this time we found 3 songs for her, which are made on the same concept especially for her! Believe me it sounds awesome!

6. Your upcoming full-length The Mortificatio promises to push your sound further. Can you tell us more about the creative process behind this record and how it expands upon the themes introduced in your debut?
The album should be released around August on Ukrainian label Nocturnus by our old friend Igor Simonenko. We started composing the album right after recording the mini album back in December 2024. The album was composed in one breath without any problems, this music was pouring from us! The album will feature 7 brand new songs that you haven't heard on the mini album, the album is 43 minutes long, which is very optimal for this style of music. Guitar solo was also recorded by Eugene Maestro, who I also play with in Cosmic Jaguar and one other band. You will go crazy with his solos!  Album cover was also drawn by our American artist Grace Ace Blood, she is also the author of all our other drawings. Also the sound of the album is done by the same sound engineers as on the mini album - Nuts4all. And the cherry on the cake is female vocals from Anira! As you can see we have the same team as we had on the mini album, only now it will be bigger in result.

7. Trevor from Sadist makes a guest appearance on The Mortificatio. How did this collaboration come together, and what unique energy did he bring to the material?
We are Sadist fans as a group! I even cover the song Escogido with my other band Cosmic Jaguar. Also their guitarist Tommy recorded a guest guitar solo for us, so I already had a good contact with Sadist members. So I decided to ask Trevor to take a small part in our album and he agreed! It was a celebration for us when we received the files with his recordings from him! It was a great honour for us to collaborate with a legendary death metal vocalist and favourite musician. I also offered Rick Rozz (ex-Death, ex-Massacre, Left to Die) to be on the album, but he couldn't because of the Left to Die tour in Australia. It's a shame, but I hope we can collaborate with him on the next release!

8. What role do keyboards and dungeon synth elements play in your songwriting? Are they used primarily for atmosphere, or do they carry symbolic weight tied to your alchemical themes?
Everything together that you listed! The keys play a big role in creating our atmosphere and concept. I personally don't know any death metal bands that use dungeon synth elements in their music, because it's more close to black metal, but we decided to break all the rules and create our own personal style. Also we use Latin on the new album to make our music even more conceptual and emphasise the atmosphere of dungeon synth!

9. Ukraine has a vibrant and diverse metal scene. How does your band fit into—or stand apart from—that landscape, both musically and ideologically?
Ukraine has a very large and different metal scene. Many people know Ukraine more from the popular Black Metal scene, which is one of the best in the world, so many people have their own stereotype about it. Some know it from the poser and hypocritical Jinjer, so everyone has a different perception about our scene. As for our band, we go our own way and play our own music without any labels and restrictions, because we put music first. Once in one of the interviews I was asked if we really practice Alchemy in our lives and it really cheered me up, because it's just a subject for songs, where you don't have to be a witch doctor or a magician or practice it to write songs about Alchemy, because it's all done on the level of interest and history.

10. With The Mortificatio set for release this summer through Nocturnus, what are your plans for the rest of 2025? Can fans expect live shows, more videos, or perhaps a continuation of your conceptual narrative?
The album is to be released in CD format and there will also be our mini album as a bonus, so you can get more than an hour of quality music from our band on CD! We also hope to play a couple more gigs before the end of the year, and also start writing new songs for the second album, because we have already accumulated enough riffs for it. So follow our social networks to be aware of the chaos going on around us! Id quod mortuum, nunc oriatur! Hoc quod cecidit, nunc revertatur.
