Album Review: X-ANONYMOUS “Masked Existence, Vol. 3”
In an era
where modern metal often struggles to balance heaviness with meaningful
substance, Copenhagen-based project X-ANONYMOUS delivers a compelling statement
with MASKED EXISTENCE, Vol. 3. Released on May 1, 2026, this 14-track,
54-minute journey dives deep into themes of identity, manipulation, conformity,
and personal liberation, wrapped in a dense sonic landscape that blends
industrial metal, metalcore, and electronic influences with impressive
precision.
From the
opening moments of “RIP OUT THE VENOM,” the album establishes its
oppressive atmosphere. Crushing riffs, mechanical textures, and relentless
percussion create a sense of tension that never fully loosens its grip. The
following track, “BURIED WHERE YOU BLEED,” intensifies the experience,
pushing listeners deeper into the album’s dystopian world where individuality
is constantly under threat. Together, these opening tracks form a powerful
introduction that immediately demonstrates X-ANONYMOUS’ ability to combine
aggression with cinematic storytelling.
What makes MASKED EXISTENCE, Vol. 3 particularly effective is its conceptual cohesion. Rather than feeling like a collection of unrelated songs, the album unfolds as a continuous narrative examining psychological control and the struggle to preserve one's authentic self. The recurring themes of external manipulation, societal conditioning, and internal conflict provide a strong emotional backbone that elevates the material beyond standard modern metal fare.
The album’s
centerpiece is undoubtedly “CLAIM IT ALL,” the lead single and perhaps
the project’s most fully realized composition to date. Built around an
unsettling motif of an “infection” invading the protagonist’s identity, the
track captures the essence of the album’s narrative. The verses simmer with tension
while industrial elements create an atmosphere of creeping paranoia. When the
chorus arrives, it explodes with a sense of urgency and determination,
culminating in the powerful declaration: “You forged the cage, now watch it
fall / Every second, I reclaim it all.” It is a cathartic moment that
transforms despair into empowerment and serves as the emotional heart of the
record.
Elsewhere, tracks like “MARCH IN LINE,” “MEMORY BITES,” and “LET THE FALSEHOOD DIE” continue exploring the album’s themes through a combination of crushing breakdowns and atmospheric electronic textures. The production deserves special praise for maintaining clarity despite the density of the arrangements. Every riff, synth layer, and vocal passage contributes to the overall mood without becoming overwhelming.
The latter half of the album remains equally engaging. “FABRICATED FRAME” and “WAKE UP” deepen the narrative of awakening and resistance, while “FEED, CONFORM, COLLAPSE, REPEAT” stands out as one of the record’s most memorable tracks. Its title alone perfectly encapsulates the cyclical systems of control the album seeks to challenge, and musically it delivers some of the heaviest moments on the release.
The closing track, “I WON’T BREAK” , provides a fitting conclusion. Rather than ending in darkness, it leaves listeners with a sense of resilience and hard-earned freedom, reinforcing the album’s ultimate message of reclaiming autonomy and rejecting imposed identities.
MASKED
EXISTENCE, Vol. 3
is more than just an exercise in sonic brutality. X-ANONYMOUS successfully
combines crushing modern metal with thoughtful conceptual storytelling,
creating an album that is both emotionally engaging and musically devastating.
For fans of industrial metal, metalcore, and concept-driven heavy music, this
is a release that demands attention.
