Single Review: Verfall “Chaos Springs Forth”
With Chaos
Springs Forth, Florida’s Verfall prove that appearances can be deceiving.
At first glance, the cover might suggest yet another Norwegian-inspired clone
of Burzum, but this duo quickly breaks that assumption.
The track
opens with a retro, almost century-old organ-like intro, setting a haunting and
nostalgic mood. Soon, slow and atmospheric guitars emerge, exactly as they
should in this style, building a dense and immersive soundscape. Näcken’s
high-pitched, shrieking vocals enter with intensity, perfectly aligned with the
steady, hypnotic rhythm. Around the two-minute mark, Isvindr shifts the tone
with subtle solos and background layers, adding depth without disrupting the
flow.
Though the
song resists major structural changes, it fully embraces the essence of
atmospheric black metal. Verfall deliver exactly what they promise—cohesive,
immersive darkness—leaving a strong impression and sparking curiosity for their
previous EPs and album.
