Single Review: The Velvet Lies “Macabre Masquerade”

The Velvet Lies “Macabre Masquerade” finds the project continuing its relentless underground evolution within the EP “Hecatomb” released in March 2026. I already had the chance to contribute vocals to their 2023 EP “Deviance” on the track “Lizard Kings & Queens”, and since then the band has been extremely prolific.

“Macabre Masquerade” shows exactly where that momentum has led them, sitting firmly in their raw, garage-born stoner-metal aesthetic. The track hits immediately with a fast, driving drum performance, a rough, uncompromising production style, and a sound that feels like it was rehearsed in a badly treated basement rather than polished in a studio. The vocal delivery is even more growled than before, pushing deeper into an abrasive, almost ritual intensity.

What really stands out are the melodic yet technically sharp guitar solos, especially the climactic passages at the end, which elevate the track beyond pure aggression into something expressive and dynamic. It is exactly the kind of no-compromise energy that feels increasingly rare today, and that is why The Velvet Lies continue to stand out.

Overall, “Macabre Masquerade” is an excellent, visceral cut that confirms the strength of “Hecatomb” as a whole.
