Single Review: Pascal Boyer "Ensauvagement"

ENSAUVAGEMENT” marks a fierce and unapologetic return to metal for Pascal Boyer, and its brevity: just 2 minutes and 25 seconds only sharpens its impact. Taken from the recently released EP SAFE WITH US, the track feels like a concentrated burst of old-school heaviness, delivered with conviction and sincerity.

The song opens with a lone guitar, immediately signaling intent, before locking into a thick, doom-leaning main riff that clearly nods to Black Sabbath’s primal power. The guitars, handled by Luca Travaglione, are gritty and authoritative, while Giovanni Maucieri’s drumming keeps everything grounded and driving. Oleksii’s vocals sit comfortably within the genre switching between melodic restraint and thrash-tinged aggression; never flashy, but fitting the raw spirit of the track.

Midway through, a short melodic passage emerges, not quite a solo but a welcome breath that adds texture and atmosphere before the song charges toward its abrupt ending. And that’s perhaps the only frustration: it ends too soon. “ENSAUVAGEMENT” leaves you wanting more, precisely because it captures an authentic, old-school metal vibe that many modern releases lack. It’s a powerful reminder of where it all began and why it still matters.
