Blending mystery, artistry, and DIY spirit, YOU ALL WILL SEE emerges from Minneapolis with a bold vision — fusing music, visuals, and philosophy into a raw, modern outsider art movement.
1. Your project carries an enigmatic name and
aura — “YOU ALL WILL SEE.” Can you tell us the meaning or intention behind the
name?
Coming Soon was taken.
2. Your debut video runs only 1
minute and 38 seconds — a bold move in today’s attention-driven music world.
What story or message were you hoping to capture within that short duration?
We wanted to start off small and simple. A way to introduce ourselves as a
label and a band with something short and sweet. It is a vertical slice of the
full studio album that is completed. We will be releasing a new single every
month. Featuring well-loved artists from around the world, single split
cassettes will punctuate each month's release. After the run of twelve singles
is over, they will be compiled into a LP to be released on vinyl called YOU ALL
WILL SEE VOL.1. This introduction is simple but with a purpose.
3. The press release describes YOU ALL WILL SEE as “a transmission from an
unknown source.” What inspired this concept of anonymity and mystery?
It is a synthesis of Tour Smart by Martin Atkins and Propaganda by Edward
Bernays.
YOU ALL WILL SEE is also influenced by the core Bauhaus principles. "Form
follows function," minimalism, and the unity of art, craft, and technology
make up a large portion of our mission, vision and values. "Artist is an
exalted craftsman"- Walter Gropius
4. You draw inspiration from 1990s
and 2000s cassette and vinyl culture. What attracts you most to those eras, and
how do they influence your sound and visual aesthetics?
Music is an art form that has to be consumed to be observed. A great example of
our influence is the much loved outsider artist Daniel Johnston. He did not
duplicate his first cassettes in the traditional sense; instead, he re-recorded
each album from scratch every time someone asked for a copy. This spoke to us
in a profound way. It is like when you go to a great restaurant that serves
thoughtful and delicious multi-course meals with farm to table ingredients
prepared À la minute . Something passed from the hands of the artist to the
listener is not just some romantic notion but necessary in this modern world of
passive consumption.
5. The project is said to have deep
roots in Minneapolis, a city with a strong musical identity. How has the local
scene influenced your approach or vision?
In many ways. The mix of scenes in the twin cities is something that one might
miss, at first glance. With Prince's influence seen whenever The Capella Tower
shines its purple light into the night sky, one might overlook the long held
traditions in many of Minneapolis’s musical communities. From punk shows in
infamous basements, to packed warehouse goth club dance nights, secret raves
and long loved established venues, the mix of so many different cultures makes
Minneapolis the only city YOU ALL WILL SEE could ooze from.
6. YOU ALL WILL SEE operates outside
traditional label systems, under your own independent imprint. What motivated
that DIY approach, and how do you see it shaping your creative freedom?
We found great influence from Seth Godin's concept of the purple cow and its
tribe. We just need to find our small tribe and create a simple distribution
system to participate in the burgeoning peer to peer marketplace. A simple
strategy to save the livelihood of musicians waiting for pennies from streaming
alone. Physical media is also important for keeping non-destructive records of
musicians catalogs, to not become lost to time in some digital vacuum. If a
farmer wants an apple, they must plant the seeds for a tree first. YOU ALL WILL
SEE is a byproduct of the unique opportunities that come with access to new and
old tools.
7. Your visual presentation feels
very intentional — gritty, nostalgic, and raw. How do visuals play into your
storytelling compared to the music itself?
Humans eat with their eyes and nose first. Every part of the process is an
opportunity for self-expression. If it's not raw and honest, then why should
anyone care? We are a shot in the dark heard around the world. YOU ALL WILL SEE
is a promise and a threat to those who need it.
8. The line between art and outsider art seems blurred in your work. Do you
see YOU ALL WILL SEE as a commentary on the mainstream music industry?
Absolutely. It is a picture of a picture.
9. You’ve already achieved impressive social media engagement — with over 5
million reel views and multiple viral clips. How do you balance maintaining
your mysterious identity while connecting
with such a wide audience online?
The project was created to focus on artistic output over any one person, so it
is not as hard as you would think. We keep our mouths closed about most of this
to our family and friends to avoid unwanted overlap. We are on a mission to
create and distribute art. That keeps our jobs pretty simple. Anyone who has
ever worked under an NDA knows the feeling.
10. What’s the relationship between YOU ALL WILL SEE and You All Will See
Records? Is the label purely a platform for this project, or do you envision
expanding it to support other like-minded artists?
They are one and the same. Everyone on staff is multi-talented and can fit in
where ever needed. We all row on this boat. That's what maintains our balance.
The goal is to work with artists in the same way Troma Entertainment works with
filmmakers. A low budget means for an artist to keep the rights to the art they
alone can produce. Music should be free. Artists should be rich. This is our
alternative.
11. As an experimental act, where do
you see the project evolving next — more videos, a full album, or something
completely unexpected?
We are just entering year 2 of 5 of our plan and that means a lot of projects
are finished and ready to be released on all physical and digital platforms.
This first song from us is a proverbial mic check before we start a full year
of wonderful music releases.
12. Finally, for those discovering
YOU ALL WILL SEE through this first video — what’s the one thing you hope they
feel or understand after watching it?
We made a stop animation style tour video of all the pictures we took flying
around on our first major US tour. This new music video is an invitation to
experience everything we have on this journey. From flying to shows, waking up
in fancy hotels, eating hotdogs in Chicago, pizza in Manhattan, espresso for
breakfast in Beverly Hills and anything else we would want to remember
ourselves. Welcome to our family. We hope you like what we have in store. YOU
ALL WILL SEE…
