The Total Sound Of The Undergound

Lelahel Metal

Erase The Day return with renewed fire in 2025, unleashing their heaviest sound yet through “Wounds.” With a new vocalist and fresh energy, the band embraces darker riffs, soaring hooks, and unrelenting intensity.

1. “Wounds” marks a new chapter for Erase The Day. What message or feeling did you want to capture with this single?

With a new vocalist, we really wanted to introduce a sound that we have been working on for the last couple of years that more or less started with our single Reanimate. Our goal was to maintain an agressive tone by focusing on actual riffs and less of a breakdown focused music. We believe that a great riff is what sparks an initial interest in a song, that is our hook. The feeling we want to convey is a kind of "let's f'n go!".

2. The track is described as one of your heaviest yet. How did you approach balancing raw aggression with the soaring chorus and epic outro?

We are band with a ton of influences from many different genres. For example, a standard metalcore chorus might be just based on power chords (which are cool), but we want to make them more interesting to us by incorporating different accents, phrasing and interesting note selection. To us, this makes these part stand out more. But being a band with such wide influences, naturally those side come forth and can easily create creative clashes. We are not immune to that, but we always make sure to at least give it a try and really listen before deciding on something. That's how a lot of parts are born, it is very important for us to be open minded and not be so focused on maintaining a specific nisch genre. We will always go for what we think sounds good.

3. The band has gone through some lineup changes recently. How have Filip, Christoffer, and Alexander influenced your sound and creative process?

Not only is Alexander a good drummer, he also gives us a solid foundation for our sound. Alexander chose to give the reins to Christoffer to focus more on another area where he also excels. Christoffers drumming brings a new level of technicality and drumming perspective to our upcoming tracks. It adds a new flavour, detail and heaviness generally. Filip brings an entirely new attitude for our music. His vocal style is very aggressive and really brings out certain emotions that just gets you going as a listener. Like previously said, we all have very different influences. So when we work together, a lot of unique ideas come forward which in the end leads to a unique result.

4. How does the chemistry between the new and original members shape the music you're writing now?

Being a band can be turbulent because you are usually very different as people, and personalities can clash. It's very easy to disagree on creative ideas, which leads to conflict. For this iteration, we are focused on listening to eachother and always give ideas a chance by recording a demo, listening through and then taking a decision. So far it's been working great. A lot of the time you end up liking something that you didn't think you would like. It's very important to always listen to everything in context rather than isolation. That's what we kinda did wrong in the past, which led to clashes between ideas. We are trying to be more open minded now, and it's working for us greatly.

5. Lyrically, what themes or emotions do you explore in “Wounds”?

The lyrics explores a struggle with inner demons, regret, and a push towards redemption

6. You've mentioned heading towards a darker, heavier, and more dynamic direction. What inspired this musical evolution?

As a group, we don't want to have rules. All we do it let our ears and feelings guide us through this journey. Trying new things is what keeps things interesting for us. Using different instruments, synths and interesting FX is a great way to give something a fresh face and sound. When we write music, it always starts with a riff that is our hook and is supposed to draw attention and make you listen. From there, it's a journey throughout the song. Giving the music our own identity is what makes us unique, that should come naturally. We are not trying to reinvent the wheel or do something never before seen. What comes out is always directly from within ourselves.

7. After a period of being quieter, what has reignited your motivation and energy to return stronger in 2025?

It is certainly a big hit losing your singer, because that's one of the biggest aspects that defines your music. It's an identity adjustment. When Filip joined us, there were a lot discussions about what vibes we wanted to give with our music. There were material written, and thankfully those stuff really connected and spoke to our newest members. We did make a few adjustment to our upcoming songs to fit the new members more. Currently everyone is very happy and excited to get new music out there. We really wanna show who we are now

8. Can fans expect a full album or EP to follow “Wounds”, or are you focusing on singles for now?

An album is sadly not on the table, but EP is definitely possible. Right now we are focused on releasing singles and might combine those into an EP. Who knows, it can change.

9. How are you preparing to translate the intensity of your new material into a live performance?

We are in the process of creating gig opportunities right now. Our goal is to replicate the studio recording as much as possible to our live shows, even down to using the same guitar presets that were recorded to the final release. And using MIDI and a Cubase project, we can make fast sound changes that more closely resemble the different dynamics in the songs.

10. Looking ahead, what do you hope listeners will take away from this new era of Erase The Day?

My hope is that our material communicates to listeners that "we mean business" We are gonna go forward with songs that have same aggresive tone and vibe. Combining heavy riffs with big atmospheric parts is something that we love to do, and there is more of that coming. I hope listeners will appreciate this new attitude we have in our new music.
