Single Review – “Dead Valentine” by Ray Noir
Ray Noir’s latest single “Dead Valentine” is a searing, goth-infused anthem that captures the violent poetry of toxic love with striking precision.
Having
interviewed the band twice—once in February and again recently—I was genuinely
surprised by the level of evolution and refinement in this release. Everything
from the sound design to the visuals and concept oozes professionalism and
confidence.
Co-written
by Ray Noir and Madeleine Wood, and produced by Jon Cass (As Everything
Unfolds), “Dead Valentine” delivers gritty textures, addictive hooks,
and a darkly romantic undercurrent. The vocals are both venomous and
vulnerable, a perfect match for lyrics that explore obsession, heartbreak, and
revenge.
The
chorus—“My Dead Valentine, a heartbreaker, will you be mine?”—is as catchy as
it is chilling, capturing the painful loop of longing and anger. The
accompanying music video, shot in a graffitied skate park in Hackney Wick,
brilliantly embodies early 2000s punk rebellion with a gothic edge. Ray Noir
turns the chaos into art, surrounded by skaters and misfits, channeling raw
energy into cathartic performance.
It might
not reinvent the genre, but it doesn’t need to. “Dead Valentine” is
bold, stylish, and infectiously anthemic. It’s dark, messy, seductive—and proof
that Ray Noir is crafting their own twisted love story with a razor-sharp edge.
Excellent job!
